speaker.gif"The Value of Philosophy - Pt. 1 " (Saturday, September 8, 2007)
Many college students struggle over the relevance the discipline of philosophy has for the average layperson. In this lecture (originally delivered at one of my UNLV courses), we discuss the end of Socrates' journey and his mission for his fellow Athenians. Despite being on trial for trumped up charges of "corrupting the youth," we learn about the relevance of a life worth examining.

speaker.gif"The Value of Philosophy - Pt. 2 " (Saturday, September 8, 2007)
In our continuing study on the relevance the discipline of philosophy has for the average layperson, this lecture (originally delivered at one of my UNLV courses) discusses the contributions of the Christian political philosopher John Locke (who proposes that philosophy is about seeking the truth) and the English atheistic philosopher Bertrand Russell (who emphasizes that philosophy is about knowledge and pursuing questions).

speaker.gif"Rationalism and the Historical Mind/Body Problem" (Recorded May 2004 by radioapologia.com -- this is an off site link)
This is the audio version of my 2001 article. Rationalism has been at the forefront of epistemology ever since Descartes. Similarly, philosophers have debated over whether or not there exists a substratum of reality concurrent with the experiential world. Specifically, is substance dualism, with respect to mind-body interactionism, true? In this essay the reader will witness how this controversy began when dualism became a philosophical paradigm and how answering this controversy impacts our day-to-day outlook.

speaker.gif"The Argumentum ad Ignorantiam: Why Atheists Cannot Avert the Burden of Proof" (Recorded April 2004 by radioapologia.com -- this is an off site link)
This is the audio version of my 2003 written draft. Atheism has historically been defined as the belief that God does not exist. In contemporary circles in the philosophy of religion, many definitions have surfaced that call this original designation into question. Should atheism be perceived in a historical context, or have atheists proposed novel definitions in an effort to skirt their responsibility in defending their conclusion? As a result, some atheists attempt to thwart their share of the burden of proof because they feel that atheism is the epistemologically "default" position. This essay surveys the difficulty of definitions with respect to atheism and why atheists shoulder an equal share of the burden of proof.

speaker.gif"Jehovah's Witnesses " (July 23, 2002)
Sometimes written literature is not as simplistic as a good audio presentation. For those who find written material on Jehovah's Witnesses too mundane or would like to hear a presentation of basic Witness tenets, then check out this radio broadcast on Jehovah's Witnesses that originally aired on "The Search for Truth" broadcast on KKVV AM 1060 in Las Vegas, NV with special guest Shandon L. Guthrie. Topics covered include the nature of God/Trinity, the person of the Holy Spirit, the person of Jesus, Jesus' resurrection, and contemporary scholarship concerning the New Testament. RealAudio format. Running time is 1 hour.

speaker.gifShandon L. Guthrie on "Live with the Infidel Guy" Radio Show (August 19, 2002)
This is RealAudio file of my appearance on an internet-driven, national radio broadcast devoted to defending atheism. The host of "Live with the Infidel Guy" is Reginald Finley, a self-declared "agnostic atheist." This broadcast features my defense of three primary contentions about theism: (i) Religious belief is properly basic (a justified true belief even in the absence of evidence), (ii) the kalam cosmological argument proves God's existence, and (iii) the moral argument also proves God's existence. Running time is 1 hour.

speaker.gif"Mormonism" (July 9, 2002)
Sometimes written literature is not as simplistic as a good audio presentation. For those who find written material on Mormonism too mundane or would like to hear a presentation of basic Mormon tenets, then check out this radio broadcast on Mormonism that originally aired on "The Search for Truth" broadcast on KKVV AM 1060 in Las Vegas, NV with special guest Shandon L. Guthrie. Topics covered include Finite Godism, monarchotheism, deification, the historical Jesus, soteriology, eschatology, and indoctrinational practices. RealAudio format. Running time is 1 hour.
